Default Mac or hooker?

Just as the title implies. I am considering mac midlength headers with ORY and a pair of HF cats welded in the Y-pipe at a exhaust shop.

Or

Hooker LT headers with ORY and a pair of HF cats welded in the y-pipe at a exhaust shop.

Normally it would be a nobrainer to get the LT but I heard the Midlength macs would be almost as good for me HP gain wise and at a better price and easier install since I have no plans for any head/cam work.

Is that true? I will not be doing anything but bolt-ons so would my money be better spent on mac or hooker (I chose those two because I am on a budget).

Thanks,

Mac headers work pretty well.

Mac headers are good for a car that will receive mild boltons, maybe also a car built for handling. Ground clearance is excellent.

For max power the longtubes are always the way to go.

i have mac's. they are a pretty good header and install was easy.i'm switching to kooks,i would take the hooker over mac's. but if it's money you're worried about, macs will do the job nice.hp wise, hooker would make afew more. goodluck to ya.

I think either will work for you application. However, you might decide to do a cam or heads later so I'd tend to favor the LT. If your sure of staying bolt on MAC's. I'd replace the MAC cats with a better cat.

With either be prepared for doing a little clean up work...

I say go with the mac's. I'm running them and I have no complaints. They fit great. They can't be that bad if that MTI 422 in Sept. GMHTP made over 500 rwhp with them. I Have thought about switching to a hooker LT but I don't think the minimal gain will be worth the trouble.

There's many different stories from many different opinions. I made 370hp/375tq w/ MACs and a 218/224 cam in my 98. Cam-only cars i don't think would see much difference between mids and LTs but if all you care about is numbers, your wallet and your choice. MACs are a great all-around header for the price and i'm goin with them on my WS6...for clearance reasons mainly..slammed to the earth!
