Default XS Headers and rasp from the ypipe?

So I just put my headers on(XS) and they are awsome! Went in so smooth and I didnt have to remove any heat shields like my paceshitters. I didnt even have to cut the casting tab!

So my setup is XS headers-> XS ORY-> Magnaflow.

I seem to be getting a good ammount of rasp and a guy told me it was the ory. Is this true?

Yes.. ORY or any Y pipe really will give rasp. Cats cut the rasp down.

The prevailing theory on here is that the Y-pipe causes the rasp. I had it on my car, and sure, it was raspy. Then I replaced it with a custom Y with Flowmaster merge and it was still raspy, but a little better. It took a combination of cats, powerpack in the I-pipe and Hooker resonator tips to kill all the rasp.

True duals is the only option to have no rasp or just get as quiet a cat back as you can stand.

I've read that replacing the merge in the Y pipe with a real merge like the flowmaster one or maybe the Magnaflow one can cut down on the rasp from a few people on here. Not sure if that's truth or just internet myth.

EDIT: RevGTO got to it before I did.

Just to be clear: the difference is not very significant. Rasp was still way beyond acceptable for me.

I would try a dual dual muffler, that should cut down on the rasp. Or put in a bullet muffler before the axel.

I had a thread about this not to long ago, I put a bullet muffler in mine and it helped alot. Right at the end of the y-pipe.

Well the y merges pretty smoothly. I guess I will try a bullet muffler. Any ideas on which one?

I used a 3.5" dynomax muffler, just becuase when I bought it I thought it was a 3". But a 3" would be perfect for it.

It's actually the Y-merge that creates the rasp. The easiest fix for this is probably to put a bullet style muffler (spiral flow, sweet thunder, bullet, etc.) in the I-pipe. This tends to quieten it down some and eliminate most of the rasp.

Well i decided on two different ones. The Dynomax bullet, not stainless but less than half the price. Or the XR-1.

Can I get that bullet welded to my stainless exhaust. Sorr if thats a stupid question I donr know much about welding. I figured since it was two different metals.

Im bitching about price. Im not going to pay some odd $90 a piece for a cat and then have them welded in for more money. Besides my car is lowered and doesnt have that much room under it for cats. I dont need them on top of that as well. I am asked if I should go with the Dynomax bullet or spend them money and get the XR-1 because its stainless and thats what the rest of my exhaust is.

There is also the possibility of the stainless spiral flow from Moroso for the same price as the DM bullet.

My car has a good amount of rasp also. I even have 2 spiral flows right after the y pipe with a dump. Sounds good with the cutout open though.

if you dont get cats you aren't gonna get rid of the rasp, plain and freakin simple, a bullet muff gets rid of a little but you'll still have it, if you want no cats then freakin deal with the rasp, damn bro!

Cats won't automatically elminate all rasp. Y-pipes tend to have more rasp because most have a poorly made Y-merge.
