Default 1 3/4 or 1 7/8

I just placed an order today for Kooks 1 7/8 coated headers w/ catted y-pipe. My question is 1 7/8 too big for what I'm running? Keep in mind within a year I plan to do a cam (prob TR224). And within the next 2 years I *hope* to do heads. Right now I have Pro 5.0 shifter, short stick, !CAGS, and an SLP lid. How much power will I be losing with the 1 7/8? What will the difference be on the low end?
Thanks.

Some will say that with stock cubes, a 1 7/8 setup is too big. Personally, I can tell you that I have a set of headers that size on stock cubes because I plan on increasing CI later on. You may lose a tad of low end torque but LT's are geared for top end HP, not torque necessarily. There is no best of both worlds. I don't think you'll experience any ill effects of primaries that big. I didn't. Plus, if you get a new stick, you can pick up that low end torque anyway. Although a 224* duration will not do it as efficiently as say a 220-222 will. It's really a moot issue, though, because when you spin the engine up, you are not spending long down low anyway. You'll be pulling into the upper RPM's quick. Get some gears and you'll really hit the power peaks quick. Don't worry about the headers...they'll work fine.

Thanks a lot for the reply Chris. I think I'm going to stick with the 1 7/8 unless anyone speaks up on why I shouldn't.

I say go ahead and stick with it, especially if you plan on cam/heads. I'm going with 1 3/4 myself only because I don't plan on heads for my car.

The very little you lose now will be made up for when you get your cam and then your heads.

I think its overkill for your situation. Why risk loss of low and midrange for top end hp? If your car is primarily street driven that's where you want most of your power.

My vote is 1 3/4 unless you are going with a supercharger or a big shot of Nitrous down the road or big cubic inches
