Any flaws in my summer plan?
So this summer, I'm planning on doing the FAST 90, some quality long-tube headers & hi-flow cats, a real tune (instead of my HPP), and some 4.10's. I figure that will give me a good base for when I can afford some top-notch heads and a cam.
If anyone sees flaws in this plan, lemme know. I do have a couple of specific questions though:
1: Is the FAST 90 "too much" for a stock head/cam car?
2: If I got a cam from say the Trick Flow 500hp package now, would it still work well with stock heads, or do I need to do the heads at the same time?
If you're looking at heads and cam in the future, I would say replace the whole rear, rather than just the gear, since once you hook up with that kind of power (h/c/i) you run a high risk of blowing up the stocker.
You have the right idea by running a cam to match the heads you want to get in the future, if you're concerned about cost effectiveness. With a good tune it will work, but you wont be able to take full advantage of it until you get your heads.
As for the FAST being too much for a stock h/c car... It really shines at the top end. If you're looking to do everything only once, it will be the one you want (that or a sheet metal intake if you're gonna get crazy). You may want to look into the Weiand Street Warrior that is (supposed to be) coming out soon, if it lives up to the hype it will be better for you with just bolt ons. When everything is said and done though, you'll probably end up switching to the FAST.
