Default '98 Smog equip vs 2001????

I have a question for the LS gurus. My car currently has Mid length headers on it. The previous owner bought them used from this fourum. The car is a 2001 but the headers are for a 98. He pulled the cars AIR, EGR, etc and bought and installed '98 equipment to make the headers work.

My dilemma is: When I buy longtubes I will use the smog equipment. I have a box with all the 2001 equipment in it. Is there any reason to use the 98 equipment that is currently on the car or is it better to put the 2001 stuff back on?

Thanks in advance. I've gained so much knowledge from this site that my hat size increased!

If your car is a 2001 it shouldn't have EGR in the first place, so that's one thing off the list. If just plain won't work with your manifold, there is no provisions for it on an '01 because its not required.

Are you planning on putting cats behind your Long tubes?? If not, the AIR system is completely useless. Might as well take it out and have the codes tuned out. Even with cats it will pretty much be useless, since the cats are in such far proximity from the AIR tubes.

Thank you guys for the answers that I was looking for. It seems that this will be a non-issue as from what ONEBADASSWS6 tells me I can expect to not need the factory equipment. My main concern was resale of the car. It's hard to move a car here in Maryland if it won't pass emissions. I can just get race headers and ORY then swap back when I sell. The car's getting tuned anyway.

Feel kinda crappy because I was looking at a set of headers on here and said no to the seller 'cause they were non-emissions.

To answer your question, my car is an 01 but has mid length headers designed for a 98 car. The AIR system and other miscellaneous crap from a 98 has been installed on my car. With the original stuff ending up in a box. I'd have to pop the hood and take inventory, but everything to make these '98 based headers work on my '01 has been installed from a 98 or 99 car.
