racing use only (?)
So I got my hooker catback today, planning on installing it later this week. It says on the box that the exhaust system is not for use on cars with catalytic converters and is for racing use only...ie, is not street legal.
My question is, Do I care? It will be obvious that it is not a stock exhaust, but will a cop know what is and isnt street legal? What makes a catback system illegal - you still have the cats for pollution control?

alot of people are do NOT have CATS ussually you wont get caught, just keep the car queit around a cop, because if they do happen to look under the car for some reason and not see them you can get a fine. But unless you got a Y pipe with it then you will still be running cats. Also if you do not have to pass a visualy inspection in order to pass your inspection, then you prob. wont ever get caught havin no CATS

You will find that disclaimer on all automotive products that are not C.A.R.B. certified.
C.A.R.B. certification can be expensive and a company can sell nearly as many products even without it.

Even though you have cats, they are not in the stock location. So it is not street legal.
I honestly have no idea why a catback would have that on the box. The catback is just that, it replaces the pipes and muffler from the cats back but not the cats themselves.
Maybe a loudmouth I can understand as it breaks noise laws left and right and has no actual muffler (just a resinator) but the hooker is a quieter catback. Gotta say I'm a little baffled on this one.

I have 'Hooks' on mine both shorties and catback. Although I get a lot of flak from LT fanatics, I can take the cats off for the track and slap them back on for the street and sniff patrols. Cats still in stock position too.
Plan to make up for it witha little gas a soon as I get my TC.

I am not moving the cat, it is just a catback. So the bottom line is that I should not get hassled for just putting on a "racing use only" catback?

I had the Loudmouth on mines. Never got harrased for it. And it passed inspection since the cats were still on. I'm in the NY area. As long as the cats are on, you'll pass inspections, that is if you have inspections in your state.

you won't get harassed for it cause it just looks like tips were added to the car. on a car with stock cats/manifolds, it'll be almost stock quiet, but a nice rumble. i had the hooker catback with hooker lt's and no cats, and i never got hassled. it is one of the quieter exhausts out there, even with LT's and no cats, it was quiet, but it had that musclecar tone to it still. i loved it!

You shouldn't have any problems with it. The only thing I can think of why they have that on there is the fact that you can just unbolt the muffler which is like a cut out (which aren't street legal to have...not open, but have on the car)
