Evans or Edelbrock water pump??

Default Evans or Edelbrock water pump??

I need to get a new water pump for the car and I am deciding which one to get. I thought about a Mezeir, but I though I would rather have a mechanical water pump.


Just wondering between the Evans and the new Edelbrock, which would you be inclined to get. I know not many people will have the chance to get results on the Edelbrock, but how does the Evans do?


I need one that will cool better at idle and driving around at low rpm's in town.

the evans pump requires you to use evans coolant and use a lower temp thermostat...sometimes it still doesn't cool sufficiently w/o an aluminum radiator.

The Edelbrock flows like 15% more than OEM IIRC. Their old small block pumps are super nice. If mine goes I'll try one even though they are pricey.

The edelbrock isnt out yet but its close. We sell them both. You could also look at replacing your radiator. The water pump is cheaper but a premium radiator like the Ron davis will lower your temps 20%, you can also have an oil cooler integrated into it.

The Meziere will definitely cool better at low RPMs and driving around town since it is always spinning at the same RPM. Trust me, your car will run cooler with it. You can wire a separate switch to turn it on whenever you want or you can also just turn your key on with the car turned off (like in a staging lane) and the pump will cool your car right off.

The Meziere also freed up a little HP for me (measured by seat of the pants of course) but I was surprised that I could tell a nice little difference after the install. According to HP Tuners I am running about 5 degrees cooler at most RPMs, down to high 160s and low 170s on the highway, definitely cool enough. Just my 2 cents...

The Meziere is not ideal in all situations. It runs at one speed. Does your engine run at one speed and produce the same amount of heat all the time? There are pro's and cons to an electric. The only draw back people have on a mechanical is the power to turn it.
I have a Mezeire and a Ron Davis radiator with integrated oil cooler for my new engine.
Heat is the enemy of metal.

And another drawback is that a mechanical will always be turning slower at idle and lower RPMs which is generally when the engine will be hottest since the car is more likely to be moving slowly or at a standstill and can't get much airflow to the radiator. Also, the engine has to be running for the mechanical pump to work, not so with the electric pump of course. I'm not trying to sell either one, just pointing some things out.

Actually your incorrect about the belt driven one. They use gearing to make the Evans turn faster. This is how it cools better. Get the water throught the blocketo be cooled in the radiator quicker. Same for the Edelbrock I believe but dont quote me on that.

go with evans, i think its supposed to flow 20% more then stock, and they have different pulleys for ur aplication, this is the pump that darton recomends, also i hear the evans cooling works great also

i still dont know aht the edelbrock pump goes for.
i got a good one off ebay for 100$ shipped, new, it works, over 4k miles no issues

The Evans pump is a stock casting that features a higher flowing impeller as well as a bleed port. It flows 30% better than stock and more importantly will not cavitate at high RPM's like the stock one will. The Evans pump will provide even cooling to both cylinder banks at high RPM (unlike the stock one). They offer many different pulley sizes for the pump to suit your specific need. And, the Evans pump will work with the stock thermostat and it WILL work with OEM coolant. I had a long talk with one of their engineers who explained all of this to me.
