Default the chirping and squealing . . .

One(or more) of the accesories on my LS1 Z28 is making racket. Its an intermittent problem, usually does it when it first starts up, and in high humidity/rain. Sounds like a bird chirping and a belt squeal at the same time.

I've already replaced the idler pulley about 20k miles ago, it was making a chirping noise. I don't think that's the problem, since it doesn't sound the same. Right now its squealing, not chirping.

Replaced the main belt, still haven't replaced the a/c compressor belt.

I'm thinking its the a/c compressor, since when I turn the ac on it changes pitch a bit. I'm not going to replace the compressor, since it still works great.

Is there a way to lube the pulley or do something to get rid of the inncessent squaking?

had the same problem, and it turned out to be my AC belt tensioner. You can try popping out the seal on the bearing and packing it w/ grease. This may only be a temporary fix however. New assembly costs like 35 bucks.

i had the same problem as it turns out there was a small leak on the coolant line going to my tb. it would occasionally leak coolant onto my belt causing it to squeak wretchedly every now and then but not enough to be obvious. may be a long shot but you may want to look into it.

I'm having the same problem, but mine only makes it when i turn the a/c on. I've been told that I need to add oil to the a/c system, I'm gonna try that and see what happens.

Old thread but this thread helped me track down my squealing. When I removed the A/C belt, the squeal went away. Running the A/C didn't seem to help or hurt the squealing. I plan to pull the tensioner and atempt to rebuild it or replace it.

Thanks for sharing the information guys.

Default the chirping and squealing . . .

I know it's an old thread, but I have chirping in the morning usually. Lasts about 5 mins or so. I know it's not A/C, because I haven't had a belt for the A/C since I bought the car 3 years ago. I've replaced the tensioner pulley, which seemed to solve the problem for a few weeks.. I think it may be the power steering pump pulley.

Update, I packed both old A/C pulley tens bearings with grease and this yeilded a constant squealing above 1500-2000 rpm. I plan to replace both pulleys with new ones from Oreilly. The belt looks great. I suspect that the bearings were too far gone to just add grease to.

I actually remember I was going to try that about 2 years ago, but autozone didn't carry them. I'll have to grab one online soon.

glad this worked for you. I went through this like crazy and replacing the pulleys would only work for a week or two.

In my case I needed to replace the damper AND install a gator back to finally get rid of it. They sold the line so it's now continental elite.

I spoke too soon. Squealing came back very soon. I cleaned the pulleys and belt and the squealing went away so it seems like it has to be related to the belt touching the pulleys. I replaced the A/C belt this morning with a store brand Oreilly belt and the squealing is gone again.

I will definitely do that. The wife and I drove around for several hours yesterday and so far so good. I kind of thinking that the squealing was coming from the back side of the belt contacting the tensioner pulleys. My old best is a Gates and the groved side looks great.
