Exciter Ring Protecter I am very familiar with pulling rear axles with C clips, the manual states to install an exciter ring protector when pulling the axles. Anybody no anything about this?
Is it necessary?

I have never done that. It is soft steel but you would have to pretty much dang it to mess up the excitor.
I have pulled excitors from axles several times for our cars. Never messed up one and I used a lil bit of force.
