Best way to connect exhaust pipe?

Best way to connect exhaust pipe? I've got about 2-4 inches inbetween my Y-pipe and my catback. How exactly should I go about connecting the two?

Take it to an exhaust shop or buy a piece of pipe. Easiest way is to get a piece that will slip over both pieces of pipe (granted they are the same O.D.) or slip into both.
