i believe the statement 'no pcv' was taken as the pcv valve was discarded and bypassed. i will have to stand behind TLewis's statement though.

Yes...that is how I took it.....if you are talking about a motor with only breathers & no PCV system at all, then some reversion (in slow motion on a wet-flow bench you can see the reversion pulses back into the intake system & this can push a small amount of oil back into it if there is any blow-by at all), may be occuring, but unless it is a track only engine that the oil is changed every few races the caustic & harmfull vapors are not being pulled or flushed out so every time the motor cools back down they re-condense back into the cranckcase & re-contaminate the oil. On our race only engines we use belt driven vacuum pumps with relief valves to evac & control the amount of vacuum pulled (no more than 12-14 inches or the vaccum starts to pull oil off the wrist-pins & main journals), but we build these with low-tension rings & better sealing of all gaskets, and for a street motor that is impractical.

For a street application you absolutley need a system that flushes out the harmfull by-products of combustion....not just crankcase pressure relief.
