does it matter if..... the cats are welded in the Y pipe near the merge and not right after the headers?
i had a guy make me a new Y and weld in two cats and he put the cats like under the driver and passenger seats, right before the merge.... is this ok or should i have the cats taken out and welded in right after the headers?

If you can pass an emissions test, leave them.
They're slightly more efficient right after the headers, but more prone to burn out and fail/cause a fire.
They should be fine further back, however.
