Mac vs Long Tubes
if you talking about shorties or midlengths vs longtube, then longtubes all the way.
the install is a pain in the ***, so why short yourself the 10 or 15 more hp you would gain with the longtubes over the shortie style header? save up and get the longtubes definetely. my buddy has a 99z28 and he gained almost 30rwhp with just longtubes and an ory pipe.

on the same dyno, i was making a bit more than another a4 guy who had a ported tb, long tubes and a dyno tune. we both had cats.
I have Mac mid-lengths with a custom true dual setup with bullets. Sounds pretty nice and I am happy with the performance. Soon I will be doing a TD setup with the Mac mids and 3" oval tubing to a X-pipe and Spintech mufflers dumped.
i made 18hp/18tq with my macs. Whenever i decide to go to true duals i should see more power.....with lt's u get around 20-30 depending how your setup is. It can be worth it, however to me it isn't.

I think the bottom line should be if you have the MACs, save the $$$ for something else, unless they leak or there is something wrong with them. However, if you are deciding on MACs or LTs, then don't go through the trouble unless they are LTs.
Just my .02s.
I have had mac mids on a cam/bolt on ls1 and they were actually more of a pain in the *** to remove than it was to install my pacesetters, definately picked up torque and they sound 100% better... wouldnt go anyother way but lt's!

is it worth buying longtubes over macs if you dont have headers yet. definitely
is it worth switching from macs to longtubes unless your planning something crazy, definitely not imo
i have macs on my car and went 11.4 @ 124 on motor. now on n20 i make right at 500 rwhp with a 75 shot and the next time at the track im planning on 10's. granted the only reason i have them is back when i got my headers like 6 years ago all that was out was macs and the $1300 FLP's

the main reason i was asking was because i am in process of rebuilding and had the motor pulled. i didnt want to pay twice the labor if i decided to switch down the road. i thought i had good performace from them but i wanted to make sure i am getting the most out of my new set up. thanks for all of the replies.
Well, I just replaced my macs/cats with pacesetters/ory. I'm getting the car retuned this weekend so I'll let you know of any gains.
I will tell you this, it sounds so much better now. It is still pretty quiet through the corsa catback, though.
