Alternator noise

Alternator noise I recently rebuilt a wrecked 98 Camaro Z28. I don't know if it's normal, but the alternator seems like it kicks in every now and then with a sound like a jet's taking off or like a flash bulb recharging. When it does make it's noise, everything dims a bit for a micro second. Let me know what you guy's think. Thanks.

Are you sure it isn't the air pump kicking on???
And that is normal? This is the first time I've ever heard that in a motor.
