Tune after Header install?
Tune after Header install? Does everyone need a tune after installing long tube headers and a off road y-pipe?...Do cars run bad without getting a tune after this?
It will run okay without a tune but you'll see more power if you have it tuned for the new exhaust setup. I would think it would run lean now that you improved flow through the motor but it will smell a little too without the cats.

you dont need a tune really, the car will run a bit rich but it's not that big of a deal. of course if you did get a tune you would see more power. but imo save the tune for a cam there isn't a real reason to get one at this point.
I installed a LS6 intake, PnP Throttle Body and Headers without tuning. No problem, not much change in idle or part throttle.. most likely I am leaving some on the table to be found later.. The PCM should be making adjustments from the reading of the O2 sensor. So.. it should be too bad as far as running Rich or lean. Anymore bolt-on's and a tune will be needed. Or if you just want to spend the $300 or so and get every bit of power... then get a tune.

Jesus Christ...500+ for a tune? Might as well just buy HP Tuners and start learning yourself. New Era, which does excellent work, does dyno tunes on cammed cars for 350. That's where I got mine done.
If you're going to be just bolt ons for a while, then I'd go get the tune. Then if you cam the car or something, you can go back and retunes are usually only like 100-150.

Ya, I've been going around untuned for quite some time. No problems, I am sure more power is too be had but its pricey. I am waiting to do my cam, but I was going to buy it for my last birthday and still haven't and its almost my birthday again lol.
lol hate it when that happens, my bday is coming up in nov, wish me luck, maybe i'll save up enough by then
