LS1 Head Cleanup Questions.... Please help.

Default LS1 Head Cleanup Questions.... Please help.

Alright, bought a set of 241 heads to swap onto my 98 and rid me of the crappy ones I have. I bought them from a friend, he doesnt know mileage, came off a running motor, seem to be in really good condition.

As far as my question, I wanna take them to a machine shop and have them checked out and cleaned up, so....



When I take them to the machine shop, what exactly should I have them do?

What do you recommend?



I was thinking to have them dip them in the tank to clean them up an check for cracks, maybe check the vales for me, and make sure they arent bent, and I guess check the valve seats to make sure they are still good. Does that sound about rite, and how much should this cost?

if your heads are fine i think your wasting time and money i honestly dont see you gaining anything from 1 ls1 head to another......JMO

but id have them check for cracks do a fresh valve job...check spring pressure and id have them milled about .020 so you can aatleast bump up your compression

heads arent fine. theres a reason for the swap, my whole valvetrane is crap.

so you say check for cracks, spring press (but im getting new springs), milled .020 and valve job.

a valve wont hit with it being milled rite? what if I go with a z06 cam, would I create some problems there? does it need to be angle milled instead?

valve jobs get expensive and i think that would cost me more than the heads are worth, I think i could have them check and tell me if I need one.........
