Well the stock catback is stainless steel but when I took mine out it looked similar. Why because they use lower quality stainless that is why it was mentioned above to make sure it uses 304 Stainless. I went the pacesetter route on my previous car but I was concerned with performance more than looks as it was first a race car and second a street car. This time around I went with AHR 1 7/8 with a catted Y to Magnaflow catback and couldn't be happier. It sounds and looks great.

Its been about 2 years now and they still look great!
My uncle on the other hand bought Stainless JBA headers for his 05 GT and this is what they look like in the same amount of time! And his is not a daily driver either. He called JBA and they said it is normal you just have to wipe them down or should have them coated! **** you try reaching the headers in a Mustang engine BAY!
Stainless headers.....

My JBA coated shorties looked the same after a couple years, and they weren't exactly cheap, almost $600. back in 2002.

Agreed. On the JBA website, they don't say what kind of SS they use, they just say "stainless steel." Must be the cheap stuff. If they used 304 I bet they'd be proud to advertise it.

just because they are stainless does not mean they will never rust! The pacesetters (coated) that are in my SS have been in there for a long time and they still look great. One issue with stainless is that the heat can stress the metal and it will become brittle at some point which is why you should make sure of the thickness with the flanges is sufficient.

You won't be replacing uncoated pacesetters either. You can convince some of these newbs on here to get the 1300 headers but I've been doing this **** for a while. My first ls1 I had uncoated hooker longtubes, sure they weren't as pretty as some of the other headers but the fit was great and the price was right. If you have the money to blow then get some overpriced ARH's but if you are on a budget like so many in this community then pacesetters or hooker longtubes will be just fine and you have $1000 bucks to buy other mods.

You're right DeerHunter. Actually, the main reason I'm changing the JBAs is because they're shorties. Massachusetts changed their inspection procedure for '96 and up cars, so I can run LTs now, plus I'm installing heads soon.

In an earlier post I did say that if you're into having a mint looking engine compartment, you might be very disappointed with how coated, non-SS, or cheaper SS headers look after a year or two. But you're right, no one needs expensive headers, they're a luxury. Also in my case, I'm pretty much done with the mods, and I've had my heads sitting in my basement for 3 years, so I decided to to splurge on some ARHs. I haven't spent any money on the car in a long time.

I've had my ARH for about a year, best header you can get, no problems with them, excellent ground clearance on Y-pipe, didnt have to grind on K member, I'm also on Pro-kit, save the money and go ARH
