Default Advice on compression...

I'm at the point now with my car where I'm trying to squeeze every last ounce of hp from it. I've been thinking about bumping up the compression ratio. Currently I'm at 10.8:1 and want to go to about 11.5:1. My mods and power are listed in my sig. I have a Comp cam xfi/xfi 230/236 .612/.608 112lsa and TFS 215 heads at 62cc. I'm not sure what my DCR is currently.

Do you guys think that there are any gains to be had by doing this? and is it worth the $800 in labor and milling?

I would say no. And by looking at your cam, you have alot of lift, and my have to fly cut the pistons. Do you know your PTV clearance now? 10.8 is pretty good.

I don't recall what the ptv clearance was off hand, but the guys at TTP did say there was plenty of room to mill the heads after they installed this new cam. My old cam had more duration (234/236) and slightly less lift, and had minimal ptv clearance.

depends on what kind of fuel you can run, if you're restricted to 89/91 octane, your tuner may have to pull timing, in which case you won't be any faster. typically 11:1-11.3:1 makes for the best area to shoot for, from my experience.

save your $800, pull your 215's off when you can afford to, and swap for 225's and a cam to match.

well typically a 1 point gain in compression gains around 4 % (i think so) more power so i'd say you would probably pick up between 10-15 rwhp by going to 11:5 scr. that is just an uneducated guess though.

You could PROLLY ( and still clear) mill .15 and put you around 59cc but not worth the $$ imo. I doubt you would feel any SOTP diff. and only pick up a few ponies on the dyno.

I think I have GM stock thickness head gaskets.

Thanks guys. That's more or less what I was thinking; not worth the money. I could do a Meziere for less and probably see similar gains but with the added benefit of cooling.

I would reccomend going with a 0.040" gasket. It's like milling the heads 0.016", but in actuality, you gain even more because when you mill the head, it only decreases by the thickness multiplied by the area of the combustion chamber. But when you reduce gasket thickness, you also reduce the quench thickness which will actually help in reducing knock, and help the motor run more efficiently, and produce more low end torque.
