Default TR224 installed...short vid

I just got done installing the TR224 cam along with a set of PAC 1218 valve springs last night. My girlfriend has developed quite an interest in cars and wanted to learn more about the mechanics behind them. So I took it slow with her going through the cam/valve spring install. She was able to get her hands dirty and tackle a few things on her own...which really impressed me. Anyway, the install went very smoothly and I thought I'd take a quick video of the start up after install. It fired right up and found idle immediately.

What LSA did you get with the TR224? Sounds good for such a small cam

I was thinkin the same thing. It's a 112 LSA but I still haven't heard a 224 cam chop this much. I had a TR224/112 back in the day and I don't remember it being this lopey. I called Thunder and the numbers on the end of the cam check out, so it's legit. It found idle right at around 800...same as stock. I'm even thinking about lowering it to around 750 when I tune it for a lil more chop I let the springs heat cycle twice now...once last night and once tonight. Tomorrow will be the first test drive.

At stock idle setting it does have a nice little chop like that for the TR224 112. I raised mine to 900 to smooth it out but it still has a small "chop" vibration that I like. Problem with the chop in the idle is that if you want to crawl around at idle it's on the verge of stalling with a m6. Surges pretty bad at that point.

It's a good cam, makes decent power and if you nail down the drivability tune, has 29-30mpg possible.

Yeah the TR224 on a 112 has a nice chop to it and even if you raise it, it is still noticeable. If you would have gotten the TR224 on a 114 and raise the idle to 900 then you wuold have no lope at all, so you end up with perfect stealth mode

My tuner and I should be getting together in a couple weeks here. I detail cars and boats, so he wants me to do a fully whammy on his black z

Not much at all

Well, on my 5 previous LS1 cars, Ive always done heads at the same time as the cam. When doing heads, obviously the headers have to be unbolted from the stock heads, so Im so used to unbolting the whole exhaust as a first step. After I had it off, I was like "Damn, Im just doing a cam this time!!" But its cool, cuz I did so love to hear the car start up with the cam and no exhaust. When I started it, it had my Pacesetters and off road y pipe with no catback. I did a cam only swap on my first LS1 and a buddy's LS1, and after that I told myself Id never do a cam swap again unless I was doing heads at the same time. I would rather go through taking the intake and the heads off every time than spend hours on those friggin pain in the *** valve springs

Anyway, thanks fellas
