A tune is a must! Without one even the mildest cam will sound nasty, but occassionally you'll think the car will quit. I have an older hot cam which nets 365hp/390tq after tuning. It sounds pretty mild now. I want more so heads and a more aggressive cam combo is in my future.

i have the hotcam for it to really run good idle wise is to tune it to idle at 850 to 900 rpms.

Mine originally idled at 800 (M6) and now idles at about 900.

yeah i work for a chevy dealer so get it should be no problem, and a buddy of mine is a mechcanic so getting it put in is np.
