Default MS3 cam+ boost... anyone done it?

Just curious to see if anyone has ran boost with the MS3 cam before, and if so what the results were. Ideally most tend to shy away from the larger cams with boost, and go for a more boost friendly milder cam setup. I have a large cam in my LT1 boosted car (244/254 .578/.578 114 LSA) and it actually is perfect as it allows for me to get traction even in 1st gear by not making killer mid range power.

Anyone?

Some pepole are using G5X3 cam (smiler to MS3) and getting good numbers with Supercharger.

No Turbo though.

Why are thinking about boosting the Formula???

WAY down the raod, when the stock bottom ended LS1 is toast on my Formula, (assuming funds are available at the time), I would like to boost the Formula with a good sized turbo. Not really even thinking about the Formula on this one though, as I would probably do a custom cam like I did with my Z, but more interested in the results of others that may have boosted with the MS3.

I know its a great cam for nitrous, but wondered how it performed under boost.

Well, as turbo cars get out of the lag, and into the boost, ideally you want something to give you midrange power to get into the boost, thus why lots of guys go with more milder cams for boost in general. However, I will say from my Z, that having a cam that is large can be very benefitial as by the time you are in the boost, you are also making power with the cam, so if you are already rolling it takes away from hitting the power curve early and loosing traction. Just my opinion, and most will disagree with me, but just wondered if anyone had done the MS3 with boost.

The MS3 will not work well for boost because of how much overlap it has. Cams with lots of overlap will cause the boost to bleed off which is never good for power. When you are looking for a cam for boost you want something that has a lot of low and midrange power to get you into boost quicker, once the boost hits it takes over for power and the cam really doesn't do much. Using something like the MS3 would not be ideal because by the time the cam gets into its powerband the turbo will take over and make the cam useless.

From my experience you can run 6* overlap and benefit from both worlds. After that yes you'll bleed off plenty.
It really all depends what you use the ride for.
I believe a guy made 780rwhp or so on stock block in a C5.
I'll try to look for the thread.

Actually it is a bit smaller Thunder trak cam
231/234 .640/.590 112 LSA 8.5* overlap

Thanks for the link. That was actually with the MS4 cam, but that is even more agressive than the MS3. Cool car, but could have done better at showing decent video of it (in car), and some better results.
