strange noise from top of motor
strange noise from top of motor Sounds like a squeak. Not a belt though. It comes from the top of the motor.
It happens on cold starts, but quiets down quite a bit once the motor gets up to temperature. It is not very noticable at all when driving around...BUT if I romp on the car and come to a stop and listen, the squeak noise is back. It'll linger for a minute or so and then quiet down again.
Not sure what is going on....I know that 2 of my cylinders are slightly down on compression, more than what is acceptable but not dead and doesn't smoke really. Unless I'm on it.
Any guesses on what it might be?
I tried pulling the oil cap off to see if it was crankcase pressure venting out but that didn't help out either.

Take your belt off and spin your pulleys. If they make any slight noise they can intermitently lock up and let go causeing a unusual sqeel in the belt. It is usually the idler pulleys both ac and main drive. They go bad like its going out of style.
