Default Help with my H/C setup

I'm looking to get into the 425 HP range. I just bought 243 heads w/ 918 springs. I have full bolt-ons. I'm not sure if these heads will make much of a difference with the cam I want. I don't want it to be really harsh to drive. It is not a DD but I do go for cruises with the girlfriend and such(however I do enjoy beating on it a good bit too). I think I would need 7.4 pushrods then, LS6 oil pump and LS2 timing chain. Anybody have any suggestions. Are the heads worth putting on? I posted them for sale because I just blew my rear so I wasn't sure what to do. I understand aftermarket heads are better but will it be neccessary for this setup or is there a similar setup for the money I should go with.

Jeez you just typed what came to mind..... We'll have to know what cam it is and you would benefit alot from milling those heads some.

Our PRC CNC Ported Stage 2.5 5.3l heads have dyno tested to make 40hp gains even on 224 camshafts. Something like the 224R or 228R camshaft would work really well with a ported head, or a out of the box LS6 head. I'd expect 10hp or so from the out of the box 243 castings.

Is there much difference between a 224r and 228r? Isn't the price about double for the heads to go form 243 to ported or milled heads? If so then i'm not interested right now.

I think you could go with a slighty bigger cam like a 230/232 or 232/234. I have a 232/234 on a 112 lsa and I daily drive my goat and go back to southcarolina from delaware 2-3 times a year and I get around 24-25 mpg still. It has morelend tq than stock and its a huge differnce above 3500 and pulls till 6800. It might be worth some more power than a 224 or 228 cam. And If you go with a set of TSP LS6 2.5 heads it should be a nice match.

i dont see you hitting 425 to the wheels with the 243 heads w/o going with an extremely large cam. If youre looking into the 224r-228r range, Id definitely go with the 228r. both great cams and the 228 will pick up another 6-8 hp over the 224 without much loss of driveability, if any. i would look into the prc 2.5 5.3 heads to get you to your goal. they are a good budget head and show some pretty solid gains. i hit 403rwhp with the PRC 5.3/228R combo on my 02 A4. This combo on a M6 should hit at least 430rwhp. Im not real sure why youre worried about dyno numbers, but either cam with these heads will give you a nice street setup.

depending on how much you paid for the heads i would just sell them and start over.

a nice set of ported 5.3's and a torquer v3 is low 400 hp all day

I have a pretty good sized cam (G5X3) and a set of unported LS6's on my stalled A4 and am only making 403/405 to the wheels...

You being an M6 and all... with the 228 cam. ported LS6's, you should easily be able to attain those numbers.

RWHP probably High 390s/low 400s. You can go alittle bigger with the cam and have good street manners if you want to. Good luck on what u decide to do.
