lifter change

Default lifter change

is it difficult for someone to change lifters? i am mechanically inclined but have never attempted internal engine work before...

You'll have to pull the heads off as they are under them.

Very simple once you have the heads off. The lifters sit in little trays that sit in the block. There are 4 lifters per tray, and 2 trays on each side of the motor. There is one 8mm bolt securing each tray to the block. Once you have the bolts out, pull the trays out and the lifters just pull right out of the trays. A few of the lifters might want to stay in the block, but you can pull them out pretty easily

Changing the lifters is a breeze!
Pulling the heads while the motor is in the car... thats a new ball game!

It's not too bad. Just take a weekend so you aren't in a rush. You will have to remove the heads for the swap. Use the link posted above for LS1HowTo as your guide. It is a great source for information. You will also need to pick up new head bolts and head gaskets for the install. Let us know if you need anything or have any questions!

or if you're feeling ballsy you can change them with the heads on, just gotta use magnets feed one thru the cam hole then grab the lifter with another magnet thru the pushrod hole
