Any reputable tuner should be able to get your car where you need it. With that being said there will be some big cam behavior that you will have to deal with such as very low RPM bucking. The 12 bolt with the 4.56 gears will definately work in your favor to get that car going. The important thing is to make sure you have a valve train that can deal with that cam. Of course valve springs and hardened pushrods are required, but I would seriously look into a new timing chain, new oil pump, and probably a set of lifters since the set you currently have are old with a lot of miles. For optimal power gains we prefer to see the car with long tube headers. Good luck with your build and if you have any more questions feel free to PM me, or give us a call up that the shop!

I have a 98 with the ms4 cam and supporting mods with upgraded valve train. You will want ls7 lifters, ls2 timing chain, ls6 ported oil pump, hardened push rods, and a set of PRC dual springs. I also have 42lb svo injectors and stock rear and gearing. All I did was send my pcm into texas speed for a tune and when it came back the car ran like a champ every time and was super cheap. Anything more than just bolt ons I would recommend a good tuner for a better driveability tune IMO no offense to texas speed you guys have done great for me so far and I will always be a returning customer.

I have hptuners. I wonder if I bought a heads/cam package from them if they would be nice enough to e-mail me a .bin file to start with.

Not sure on that, but I ran their mail order tune with an MS3 cam and they hit it dead on. A dyno tune only got me a few more hp and the a/f was almost perfect!

We do mail order tunes for ms4 cars all the time. The 98 pcm is a little bit different to deal with, but I bet we can help you get that thing running good! Typically guys mail off the pcm to us when they begin their install. We typically ship the computers back the next day!!

Personally, I would not do that on a 98 with that many miles. IMO either cam it small to enjoy a few more miles out of it or start gathering parts for a fresh rebuilt.

First I would do a compression and a leak down tests on your motor to find out the state of your motor. Based on that, make a decision.
