Default Anyone heard a collasped lifter?

I have a terrible ticking noise coming from my motor and it seems to be loudest around the intake. I have tried a stethoscope, checked everywhere for exhaust leaks, and have checked and double checked my pushrod length. The last thing i can think of is a collasped lifter. The only thing making me not believe it is a bad lifter is when i turn the motor over without spark (just turning it with the starter) i do not hear the sound. Does a collasped lifter only make noise if the engine is turning faster, say around 1000 rpm compared to 150 rpm that the starter turns it?
