Locks/Keepers....WTF?!?!?!?!?
WTF, how in God's name do I keep the keeper on there and raise the retainer up without the retainer cliping the locks and making them come up?! I used that new tool by larry, snugged it down, put the keepers on, used some grease to hold em in place, when i loosened the bolt, the retainer would come up, and kinda be touching on the top of the hole, which would push the locks up and out of their position, wtf am i doing wrong?

Recenter the retainer using a screwdriver or something before you bring it up. If the valve is centered in the hole you wont have any issues.

90% of the time if the retainer pushes them back out then you didn't have the spring compressed quite enough, another turn or 2 on the ratchet and you'll watch them fall right into place, hugging the valve stem, then you can bring the retainer up, no problem.

Dave is correct. Pushing the spring down a little farther will allow them to drop in and not move as you raise the retainer. If you push down too far, its hard to keep them in place. Lever or jaw type compressors are easier because you can move the retainer back and forth a little to make it easier. I always put one keeper in then move the retainer over a bit to push against that keeper while I drop in the other one. Works every time.

i've put the spring down as far as i can possibly go, the retainer is still rubbing against the stem. what do i do now? I used a screw driver to try and 'pry' the spring/retainer towards the middle, it just will not budge.
