Unless there is no other possible way to buy a set of heads than to cheap out on them, save your money and buy a real set of heads that will make good power.

Well, depends on how much he has/wants to spend. Yeah AFRs are going to kick *** compared to a ported GM casting, but they are almost 1000 bucks more of a "real-er head" lol.

That said, TSP stage 2.5 ported 5.3 heads are a great deal, but if you have the cash, by all means go AFR or TFS. He could probably get really close to his goals with just the TSP heads.

Well to be fair, I've seen ported GM castings beat the crap out of out-of-the-box AFR's too.. but they are also more expensive than out-of-the-box AFR's.

In cylinder heads, you get what you pay for, but if the goal is only 430 rwhp through an M6, then yes, even the TSP heads can get you there with a decent sized cam.

Don't see any of the really fast cars running AFR, most have stock castings. A good stock casting will out flow the AFRs and if I were going with a aftermarket head I would go with the Dart 225's. They're about the same as AFR's outa the box but way better when ported.

If your going to cheap out on the most important part(s) you will ever buy for your car at least spend a couple hundred more than the Patriots cost and get the Dart 225's. They will work well with out of the box and give you a good head to grow with.

fwiw...

the PRC 2.5 5.3's flow 312cfm at .600" for $1200 bucks.

That dollar for dollar is a good amount of head.

Dont know if they actually flow this much but.. I'm sure they do!!

Peak flow numbers don't tell the whole story about a cylinder head though. The only tool we really have to tell how well a head works is the dyno. (Thanks Bret)

well they flow 257 cfm even at .400".

they flow almost as well at .300" (208cfm) as a stock truck casting does at .500" (219cfm) and they have nice 220cc ports, 2.02valves and a small chamber.

I think with a nice cam like a tv3 or ms3 he would see 400whp

I've never seen these heads with a good cam, they always have a MS cam under them. But from what I've seen so far I'd still get the Darts or just put a bone stock set of 243's with the valves lapped on it.

Yeah he would see 400 with the MS3 but he could also see 400 with stock 243's. I guess the reall guestion for the OP is does he want a dyno # of 430 or does he want the car to run at the track?

If 430rwhp is your only goal don't even bother with heads.

Here's a custom cam on a M6 with 421rwhp and a mean *** torque curve.
https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamomet...o-results.html

It's a little shy of 430rwhp, but then you could save that $1,000 and put it towards your suspension (what good is 420rwhp if you can't hook); or save up for some nice heads. I like the ETP215 set ~$2,400.

PRC heads will do just fine. It's obvious some of the people in this thread hate PRC. Hey KMS.1320 why don't you and willyfastz go suck bret's dick together, with your biased opinions.
