Default oil pump shimming

well, i am about to do an oil pump in my car and while reading up on different posts, i saw where some guys are shimming them. i tried doing a search but couldnt quite find what i was looking for. how do i know if i need to shim, how much i would need to shim and where exactly do they get shimmed at? on the pressure side or relief side? i am looking at ls6 pumps. not sure if i am going ported or not. depends what i find. thanks for the info!!

Are you talking about shimming it to pump more oil or shimming it to clear a double roller timing chain?

I have a ported ls6 pump from TSP and i make 60 psi at cold idle, 50psi at hot idle, and 80 psi at WOT. I don't think you will need do any thing to that pump.

sounds good to me. thanks for the info. i guess its a trial and error type thing to get the pressure you want? how much pressure is too much?

i have my TSP ported 1s6 pump in. 60 psi cold idle. 38-39 hot idle and 60-65 WOT. i am guessing its lower because i have a stock thermostat? once i get a 160 stat i am guessing it will go up?

How many miles are on your engine? The tighter the bearing clearance the more oil pressure you will make. The #'s I gave you were on a brand new engine. So 60-65 psi at hot WOT on a 98 is doing good if you ask me.
