Re: why is one LSA better than another A narrower LSA will make better power in the midrange while having a slightly lower peak HP RPM. The actual peak HP numbers will be roughly the same as with a wider LSA. The narrower LSA's power will fall off faster after the HP peak (lower optimum shift points.) It will have more overlap causing less power on the extreme lowend, a rougher idle, dirtier emissions, worse MPG, and a lower dynamic (working rather than static) compression ratio and lower peak cylinder pressures making for less chance of detonation at a given octane and timing advance combination.
So, wide LSAs have their strongpoints, and narrow LSAs have theirs.
Some of these points may be debatable. These are just the opinions that I've formed over the years.
