Default CAM questions!

I sold my TR224 cam because I was thinking of another cam I decided to get another TR224 on a 112 LSA, but do you guys think I should get the cam package from Thunder Racing or should I buy the other parts seperately? What parts would you recommend with this cam? I know I'll need hardened pushrods. Should I get titanium retainers? What kinda springs? Also, is doing a cam swap a PITA for the first time?

I'll also be getting a LS2 timing chain, LS6 ported/shimmed oil pump, & a gasket kit. Is that all I'll need?

i just got done installing a tsp228r@112 in my car and am waiing to get it tuned, after i put in my stall. youll need new springs, i went with the comp 918s in mine as its not a daily driver. your gonna need a longer crank pulley bolt too. if you dont already have ud pulley, now is the time to get one. the install itself was very easy. just take your time and dont rush it. if you get frustrated, walkaway for a while. and by all means if you dont have any,get yourself a set of metric gear wrenches. the kind that have the flexible end on them. these will make your life 100 times better during the install!!

If I may make a suggestion:

While keeping in the 224 range, I would go custom using recent cam tech:

224/224 .609/.581 111+3 LSA

XFI/XE-R lobes

It will make a few more ponies and has the same power range.
You can order it from Thunder as well as a custom cam, Patriot Dual springs, 7.425 pushrods

Looks like a very strong spec for a cam there Pred-Z.

Cheers,

Macca

Why the 3 degrees advance? Why not straight up? Also what's the benefit of mixing lobes vs. keeping the same lobe "style"?

+3 to keep 40 IVC (same as TR224 112+4), same power range.

Mixing lobes does different things at different lifts: .006/.200/.400 etc..
There is more than .050 specs to a cam.
also ramp rate, off seat rate etc...

As I always say:

Anyone judging a cam by its .050 specs should be declared legaly blind

Go with the package from Thunder. You don't need titanium retainers, the stockers are fine. All you need is a spring good to .600 lift like the PAC1218 or Comp 918. IIRC Thunder has the package you need for $600? Its a good deal, I've gone with it before no regrets at all.

One thing to remember is Thunder's lobes are proprietary and no matter how much mixing and matching of lobes you do you wont get the same results.
TR224 cam is legendary, why mess with it? Many have tried to copy it but have not come up with as good a result.
Give Thunder a call and they'll take care of you.

We actually have a cam close to what Pred Z has spec'ed for you, but it has 2* of advance ground in instead of 3. We also have dual spring kits and pushrods in stock. Let me know if there is anything that we can do for you!

We havent seen one yet

Do you have some real world dyno results to prove it? I'd love to see a cam with a better torque curve and hp. Not more at a higher rpm but the same rpms but more hp and tq. Got one in a car yet to show some results? Have a back to back comparison with a real TR224 on the same dyno to show us? I love accurate documentation and proven results. You could take over the street king title
(but seriously)
