NEW HEADS??

NEW HEADS??
ok ok....now I am thinking while I have the engine apart doing the cam why not swap the heads with some ported LS1's or LS6 heads from SDPC.com for about 1200 bucks. Would I have to have my PCM tuned if I change to either one of these heads and the LS6 Cam of 204/218 .551/.555 117.5 LSA?

Re: NEW HEADS??
Technically you will not have to tear into the engine to put the cam in. If I were you I would do it in steps but that is only my opinion. Always after a cam swap you should do a tune, esp H/C swap. Now whether a shop does that or you do that is all up to you. Anytime you change the variables, the computer "should" be adjusted to maximize your HP. I would let the same place that did your dyno do the tuning since they have gotten great numbers for you w/o the benefit of headers.

Re: NEW HEADS??
i have the ported SDPC heads; they are a good value, are new not used and do not require a core charge....i also have a mild cam and have not done any tuning....no real problem....
You might want to wait to see how the Air Flow Research castings turn out....I assume they will flow better than most ported used heads and will cost a bunch less too.....consequently, the after-market porters will very likely have to reduce their prices to compete....
AFR heads are in late development and are due out in a few months...
