Default 2000 Z28 overheating slightly in winter.

I got a 00' Z28 with some stuff done to it so far. As of this last weekend while driving *only on highway it seems* it chills at about 220-225* temp when mostly it chills at 210*. The radiator fans also are coming on. I topped on my coolant but still nothing...

Also i got a under box ram air set up and k&n filter that has not been charged since about April or so... could that cause this?

Thanks!

Sounds like you should leave the rad cap off while she's running and let any air that may be in the system out. I would be willing to bet you will be able to add coolant after she comes up to temp and the stat opnes. Top her off and replace the cap. Should be fine then. Good luck.

Has the thermostat ever been changed? If not, it could be a problem. How 'bout the water pump?

Try the radiator cap idea & turn your heater on high while you're doing it. This will help purge any air. If this doesn't solve the problem, move on to the thermostat & then the water pump.

Any white smoke @ start up? Also, look for any oil or creamy substance (this could be from a leaking head gasket. Can get a coolant fluid tester @ an automotive store to test for this if need be. Probably not the case; just wanted to mention it.

no smoke or leaking.

Just grabbed a jug of coolant and waiting for car to cool off before trying this.

well if worst come to worst then i can finally upgrade my stat to a 160... and if its real bad then looks like it'll be time to spring on that electric water pump too huh?

As i always say, if it breaks, upgrade it.
