I drive my car to work every once in awhile, and want to plug it in when i do. (Its in a heated garage the rest of the time).

Anyways, i picked up a threaded heater for my car. It's supposed to be for the 98-01 5.7 Gen 3, and says to install the plug on the driver side rear of the block.

Problem is..i cannot find anything down there that looks like the right spot. My father in law thought it was funny..he came over and looked and also could not find it.

Anyone on here give me a hand?

Sorry about the pic, it's the only one I could find on short notice.

It's the gold color plug in the block right in front of the guy's mock-up motor plates bolted to the block. Right behind the black wiring harness loom.

 

Perfect. Going in from the bottom will probably be the best way i figure.

 

You will get some coolant coming out, make sure the engine is not hot. Good luck.

 

I was planning to drain the coolant. Don't need to?

 

You dont have to drain all of it from the rad, a pretty good amount will come out after you crack that plug loose, but not as much as from the rad. Just crack that open, let whatever will come out drain, clean the area free of coolant, and make sure you use a liquid pipe thread sealant around the plug before you screw it in. Give a day to set & then refill with coolant, burp it to get all the air out, & you should be good. You might have to burp it a few times to get all of the air out.

 

Going to tackle this tomorrow. Do i need any special tool for that plug? It looks a little weird in that picture.
