Ok, valvetrain setup questions.....
Ok, valvetrain setup questions..... My valvetrain is as follows, I have searched, and still don't fully understand all of the shimming and preload stuff, so if you can explain it to me start to finish, or provide me with a link that explains it, I would GREATLY appreciate it.
Lifters: Comp "R"
Rocker arms: Yella Terra 1.7s
Pushrods: TR 7.4" chromoly
Springs: Comp 977s
Retainers: Titanium
How do I determine and set the correct preload? when I installed my last H/C setup, I just torqued everything down (stock lifters, rockers, etc)

Re: Ok, valvetrain setup questions..... the yella terra's are supposed to be torqued to 25 ft/lbs....
slap 'em on....torque em down....turn the motor over a few times....recheck torque - 25ft/lbs
the rest is plug and play

Re: Ok, valvetrain setup questions..... I believe that the Comp "R" lifters have almost no preload. You need to know the amount before you can shim it correctly. 0 lash will be when you cant turn the pushrod anymore. You will also need to know how far each full turn of the bolt goes so you can estimate the shim size to use. Yella isnt adjustable and IMHO does not lend itself to easily using "R" type lifters.
If it was me, I would shim and torque to spec with different shims until I was close to 0 lash, then subtract what you need from the shim. Hope that makes sense.
