this may be a stupid question but i was reading up on the cam install write up on ls1howto and it says when you torque the crank shaft pully bolt to tq it and then remove it, why wouldnt you leave it in?

You torque it with the old bolt then install the new bolt and torque it down. It helps make sure you seat the crank pulley all the way but without stretching the new bolt. I just reused my old bolt. No problems so far.
