timing chain damper??

Default timing chain damper??

hello all!
has anyone drilled and tapped there gen 3 block to fit the gen 4.i know the damper bolt spacing is differant.so for grins and giggles i ordered one part # 12588670 to see.there is enough flat surface to do so,but i like to see if anyone has done it. thanks for any info!!

I would be interested in your results. I have read there isn't enough meat to drill the wider bolt spacing.

I contacted Robin at GMPP to see if they were going to get more of the tan ones that fit the earlier blocks, haven't heard back from him though. With the current state of GM, I would doubt it.

02 lq4 block. I went to my machine shop and we mocked up the timing chain and centered the damper and center punched the holes. Leveled the block under the drill press, drilled and tapped the holes. The hole on the left side (even side of the motor) is very close.

thanks for the photos 68 RS.did the holes go all the way through? ill have to drill by hand,only bad thing is my short block is allready put together.

Yes the holes go all the way through. The bolts that came with my damper stick out on the inside (toward rear of block) by a hair. The hole on the left, I don't know if you can see it, when I ran the tap through the last couple of threads "burnt through" for lack of a better term. I torqued the bolts to I think 25 or so ft/lbs with some blue lock tight. So the left hole is very close, but I have not had a problem. I'm just running this thing on the street so should be okay, I hope. Good luck, post some pics if you get some.
