Default Porting LS6 Oil Pump! Help!

Alright I ported and polished the LS6 oil pump, the only thing left to do is shim it but im not sure what size or thickness of shim to use and where to get them. If I use a washer, what size washer? I cant find the thread but I know there was a thread about it where the guy showed what he had done and what size shim to use and I believe it was 1/4 inch or some crap. If anyone knows please inform me.

Thanks Mike

THIS IS WHAT I READ:

General shim size recommendations are .060 to .125 inches.

Equation: xshim = 0.00612(y) - 0.362
In this equation, (y) is the desired oil system bypass pressure. Substitute this value with the desired oil bypass pressure to calculate the desired shim size.

Common Shim Sizes:

.121 = 79 psi
.100 = 75.5 psi
.095 = 74.6 psi (approximately 41 psi hot idle)
.080 = 72.3 psi

Stock pump is 65 psi

#8 machine washers approx. .047"

WHAT WOULD YOU GUYS RECOMMEND? 65 psi stock, id say id go to 75, does that sound good or would that be too much in an LQ9?
If thats the case id use 2 #8 washers and get a shim of .094 so around 74+ PSI.

.100" to .125" is plenty sufficient. I generally use .100".

So do I try to find a washer thats .100" or use multiple? Im not sure what the diameter needed is or whatever, I dont think when you buy a washer, the thickness is written on the package.

You can go to Home Depot or a hardware store and purchase #8 machine washers, use 2 or 3 depending on how much you want to shim the pump. I Loctite them to the bottom of the pump plug just for assurance.

Another option is to purchase a shim from Katech, part number KAT-A4899. I don't know how thick the Katech shim is.

How quick do you need them? I can drop some in the mail tomorrow and you would see them in a day or so, I'm on the other side of the DFW metroplex.

Going off of that, 2 to 2 1/2 dimes.

I dont need them anytime soon, im going to be pulling the motor apart for a rebuild so I have plenty of time. If you would do that itd be nice. How thick are the ones you put in yours that you would send me? Id rather not go over 75 but assuming youve done it a couple times and your experience with it id just go with what you have. Hows the oil pressure on your car?

The washers I have are .047" each. I've been using 2 for approximately .094" total shim. It's not much, but I don't want excessive pressure. My oil pressure is 41 lbs at idle using RLI Biosyn SHD 10w-30 at 210 degrees oil temperature. Cruising at 65 MPH at the same oil temperature and using the same oil I have 50 lbs. Cold start it's 58 lbs at 42 degrees ambient outside temperature in the garage.
