LS1 pcm question?
Hi guys,
first time post here. been doing alot of reading about modding the engine.
I got an ls1 motor out of a 98 camaro. I will be putting in a 69 camaro.
I really want to keep it FI.
my future plan is to change the heads, cam, and intake.
my question is if I change all that, would I need to change my pcm to a stand alone?
I really don't want to mess with the computer. can I used my stock computer with no problem?
thanks

You can use the factory computer.
I'd ge a PCM and wiring harness out of a '99 -'02 though. The 98 is sort of a bastard, it looks different, has different pinouts, and other things. Now, before you put it all together, is the time to swap it.

There are lots of sponsors here that offer mail order tuning. If you have an idea of what cam you are going to run you can even have it tuned ahead of time. Which would be a good idea since you will need to have the emissions related functions and the anti theft turned off in the PCM for it to work correctly in your swap. Then you can have it dyno tuned to dial everything in when you are done modding. There is alot of good info in the computer diagnostics and tuning and conversions and hybrids sections, so you should check them out. The yellow stickies at the top of each section will answer most of your general questions.

if your not going too radical with your setup, you can get away with a tune on your pcm. if you just want to get it in the car and have it running for now then you will still need to have a tuner disable vats, the emissions, and possibly the rear o2`s. so, you might consider finding a tuner in your area to use. if your like me you might need to see them a few times.
