Default So my friend, [ A mechanic] ........

is willing to help me install my cam this next weekend.
The thing I worry about, is that I won't be able to get a tune till the first week of February.
The cam is a GM hotcam, going into my '01 Z-28 with an a4 tranny.
Will I be able to drive this thing around w/o it bucking and dying everytime I come to a stop?
What do you guy's think?

I am glad to hear that.
Yeah, I have the LS-6 springs that cam with the cam that will go in with it.
I'm pretty pumped about this.
Just was concerned you know, about driving it around for a few weeks w/o tuning.
Thanks for the input.

Yours is a 230/230 grind though..

The hotcam is very mild..

I know I'm not the only one. yank ss4000, comp xer 230/230 .591/.591, ls6 intake, headers. It started, idled high and I got it up to temperature and that was it.

You should be ok but I would wait to do the swap until you have everything ready. It might try to push through your bakes without a stall although as mentioned its not a very big cam. Be sure to buy red thread locker for you cam retainer and camshaft bolts.

and try not to push the car too much as it will most likely be running a little lean

I ran my car with an ms3 and PRC heads for about 3-4 months tuned with just diablo handheld, which honestly isn't anywhere close to a real tune. I prob put around 1500-2000 miles on it. It prob helped that my car is an m6 but i found my car livable and actually romped on it a few times, but you prob won't find anyone telling you to do that lol.

I had the hotcam for about a month before I got it tuned in my old 98 z28 auto with a stock stall. It will sound absolutely nasty (awesome) and it will buck a little and surge some, maybe even die occasionally, but not very much and not all the time. Its not that bad, but it is a little rougher than some people on here are telling you. With your looser converter, it should be alot easier on you though. But you will definitely need a tune!
