You can put any on any engine. You just match your head gasket to the bore size. The valve size is the limiting factor on the LS1 engines. Like you can put L92s on anyhting less than a 4.00 bore. Can always put smaller bore heads on a larger bore but not always a bigger head on a smaller bore.

I think another 5.3L casting number is 862 but really they dont flow anymore than 241/853 head in stock form. A slight bump in compression but not worth the price of head gaskets or bolts.

Well they would be ported before installed. Im stuck between 243's and 5.3. I have a TSP 233/239 595/603 cam and im going to rebuild the motor and wanna put a set of better heads on to help the cam.

If you go with stock 5.3's have someone very knowledgable port them or your wasting money. I opted this route back when Bo White was still a sponsor & porting LS1 heads. I got a set of stock cast heads done by him with the bigger stock 241 head valves in place of the 5.3 valves along with his port/polish job. They then went to Gunnar@Patriot to be assembled with their Gold Dual spring kit & flowed.

My 5.3 done by Bo flowed the following:

219 @ .600" lift (exhaust)
261 @ .500" lift (intake)

My intake valves are cut for better flow down low & these heads were ported specifically to flow within my 224/224 .581/.581 cams lift. So for me personally flowing good over .590" lift wasn't needed. If I change cams later I'll move up to a set of 243 heads from TSP. I also had Bo mill my heads .018" to even further increase my comp. I haven't had a single issue with these heads since the install over a year ago & I daily drive my car 300+ miles per week.
