Default What are the symptoms of running lean guys?

My car seems to be missing/coughing when I'm "in the throttle"... had a buddy tell me that's a sign of running lean... can anyone concur?

it's seemed to only miss 2 or 3 times like this in the past few days when under load... seems to be running fine as of now. But I'm not gonna drive it anymore till I can figure out what's going on.

I could just be paranoid as usual, but want to make sure before I go out and damage anything... hopefully nothing is damaged already...

A miss when running lean, never heard of that. More power maybe and you'll run hotter. If you run real lean you could fry a piston, but you'd really know it if that happened.

Maybe you have detonation, bad gas, clogged fuel injectors or filter.

If you have a scan tool you can log your run an read back your fuel trims(STFTs) during the run to see whether you really are lean or not.

Highly advise hooking up a wideband.

Best investment you will ever make. The causes of a backfire can be many, but why gamble with running lean. One or two detonations from running excessively lean will cost you more than the price of a wideband.

Hope it works out.

^^^^This would be an easy place to start. My car was going this occasionally before I put it away for the winter.
