Im trying to install my cam.. I have done everything down to taking the retaining plate off... I have spun the cam to hell... when I go to install dowel roads they will not slide in anymore than 3inches... I got 7/16 dowel rods... any idea??? Please help asap!!!!!!!

I typically have used 5/16" dowels in the past when helping friends with their cam installs, but I don't know if that would make any real difference.

 

5/16 here too.. 7/16 is prob too big to fit next to the lifters otherwise

 

5/16 is a snug fit, doubt 7/16 will go at all. Sounds like you are hitting the first lifter, which verifies they won't fit. Get smaller rods. Round the ends.

 

just dont even use them! make sure your lifters are up and carefully slide your cam out and very quickly and carefully slide your new cam in! done it many times and have not dropped a lifter yet... knock on wood! good luck to ya!

 

Or just go get you some pen magnets. I used those and they worked like a charm. Maybe a tad more time comsuming, but the end result was the same.

 

Hell, if your anywhere close to me you can borrow my pen magnets.

 

you may have to grind one side of the dowels flat also........deff 5/16 though

 

I had the same problem, I bought the rods that were supposed to fit they didn't wanna go in more than three inches. I just pulled it out quick and easy and put it back in. I've done 4 installs like this so far with good luck.

 

take 5/16 rod 2' long each grind bearly down one side until they slide in.flat side toward lifters.. doesnt take much. sand paper and oil on the rods help . make sure to spin cam first to get lifters up off cam

 

Thanks guys... the rods were to big.. I just used 1/4 brake line and went right in no prob!!

 

the problem with 1/4 is the lifters can still slide past them without even touching them. waste of time..
