Default LS1 Timing Chain Tensioner/ Guide

I have an LS1 Block Dated mid 97 with provisions for the timing chain dampener. But most don't. There are two bolt holes located above the front most main journal.
Does anyone have opinions on this part?
Doesn't the Ls2's have this?
Pros & Cons
Why didn't GM used this on Ls1's?

Unfortunately, the part you have won't fit your '97 block. This part was installed on LS2 blocks starting in '05 from the factory. The version that fits your block is a tan color and has a different bolt center. GMPP sold the tan version at one time, but discontinued it a while back.

Here are the LS1/LS6 and LS2 dampers, the LS2 marine engine and LS3 comes with a different variety.

12588670 Timing Chain Damper, Black, LS2, 1.762 Bolt Center
88958607 Timing Chain Damper, Tan, LS1/6, 2.187 Bolt Center

This is a very useful part that helps to reduce timing chain 'whip'.

I only used the photo as a reference. I don't have the part, yet. I actually already have my balancer on. But the motor isn't even in the car yet. So, I was thinking of locating one of these and installing it prior to installing the motor. Why didn't GM used them on LS1's

I don't know for sure, but I heard the accountants had something to do with it, maybe to reduce cost?

Good luck finding a the tan version, they have been scarce for a while.

Bumping a thread from the dead... Would these still be useful with an SLP double-roller timing chain setup?
