An engine that has the stroke of the pistons changed by lengthening them. This intern changed the displacement by making it larger and makes more power.

Actually, the throws on the crank are further away from the centerline of the crank, e.g. the LS1 has a 3.62 stroke and many vendors make a 4.0 stroke. This increases the cubic inches of the motor because of the increase in piston travel. the stock motor is ~345 cubic inches, a 4.0" crank will make it ~382 cubic inches.
