Default Is an Aftermarket Oil Pan Needed???

Just window shopping on motors right now, but I'm deff getting a forged motor built this summer.

My question: Is an aftermarket oil pan needed for a daily driven 600hp car?

When do you need one and what purpose do they serve besides adding a larger capacity?

I'm thinking about getting a Canton pan when I get the bottom end built

600hp doesn't need a bigger oil pan. I run a ported ls6 oil pump and every thing is great. I think the biggest reason for the bigger pan is for road course racing, when moving through the turns the oil will go to the sides or the back of the pan.

Not gonna do any autox or road coarse, but I will head to the dragstrip and do a few highway runs.

What about when I launch and the oil goes to the back??

The oil goes back where the sump pick up is on a launch, in heavy braking, and cornering oil sloshes away, the after market pans have trap doors and complicated baffles to maintain an oil reserve by the pick up. I ran an after market pan to have an incresed capacity filter, 7qt pan, PH8A style filter, remote mounted, it takes about 8.5 quarts to fill my system. It's not neccessary but if you want to spend $500 on it its up to you. It's a nice feauture. Looks alot better than the stock pan but most after market pans dont bold to the transmission and most are not considered structural pans like the LS1. The LS1 pan acts as a tiny girdle for the block although im not sure how much it helps.

You should be fine with the stock pan.

Keep your stock pan and install this baffle from Improved Racing. Cheaper and better option than an aftermarket oil pan. Addresses the drag racing issues and many other issues associated with other types of racing.
