Smile Performance Engine rebuild

I have 130k miles on my LS1(stock other than air lid, ram air) so I'm looking to rebuild but want to make it good for 500+ rwhp. I'm looking to spend around $4,000 to $5,000 for parts. Here's what i'm thinking: Fast Lsx intake and TB, LS6 CNC ported heads--> don't know what cam is good for this? Kooks headers (1 3/4 or 1 7/8??)What else???... what about a stroker kit?????

Keep in mind I wait for the good deals on ebay so I might be able to save a couple hundred for each part

You better watch out buyin on ebay. And if you wanna hit 500rwhp on a 346 or 347 combo your gonna need to do your homework cause it's not that simple. You probably aren't gonna get there with LS6 heads either. Maybe with a set of TFS 215's, Fast 92/92, Kooks 1 7/8" & a custom cam. But your already outta money by then if your on a $5k budget.

Even if you stroked to a 383 which is as big as you can go with a stock LS1 block, 500 is still gonna be a task, require a top of the line heads/intake set-up & a custom cam to maximumize your combo. Read the stickies, there is a specific one for making 500 out of a stock motor. It can be done but not very many have achieved it.

Agreed ^^^ and your budget of 4-5k doesn't include machine work to the block, bearings, crank(if you stroke it), pistons, rods, oil pump, timing chain, lifters, gaskets, fluids. If you plan on a full rebuild add another 3k+ to your budget.

go with a 6.0 based motor instead of building up a 5.7
also go with l92 heads or reuse the 317 heads, which flow just as well as the 243 heads

^^^ Yep, with our 408 at $4224 you've got a solid base to make 500+rwhp dependably.
Then your just a good set of heads away from 500+ with low and mid range power.
This would be a much better route for 500+rwhp (dependable) for a daily driver

Iron block 402/408 (wait for sponsor sales), aftermarket castings (AFR, TFS, etc), used ported fast 90/90 (for sale section). Then sell your stock ls1 for $500-$1000. You should have more than enough left over for whatever else, and you should be well over 500hp.
