Default cam doctor question

well, i'm getting ready to order my 230/230 pred-z spec'd cam package. i live in nebraska and wont have the car out, ready to do the install for about another few months. i was planning on degreeing the cam, but thought about taking it to a local shop and have it cam doctor'd. would this be a good idea or not? i was thinking of just saving a little time, not having to get it degreed, and possibly not having to buy the adjustable timing set. I had a mechanic tell me today that it will need to be in the motor and will not work. He is very good, but not much experience with LS motors.
Thanks, Ryan

Doctoring the cam will tell you what the cam is spec wise, lift tables, lobe lift, seat timing, LSA, etc.. Once you put it in the motor, your valve events can change because of other components in the valve train that the cam has to work with. Put it in, degree it, and see if it is close to what the cam card says it should be! (lobe lift/valve events/centerlines)
