Default No oil pressure.

My friend just called me and siad that he started his car (98 trans am) and there was no oil pressure and he said there was a lot of valve train noise. Obviously might be the oil pump. Is there anything else I should look into before pulling the pump out?

sounds like a perfect oil pump failure to me, if there wasn't valve chatter than I might have said sending unit.

How much do you want for the pump? Is it used or new?

Even 30 seconds without the pump is enough to kill the bearings. Ask me how I know....

Many oil pressure problem are related to the O-ring on the pickup or the oil pump not being able to create a vacuum and suck the oil up the pickup tube and into the pump.

You didn't state if he was doing any work on the oil pickup, pump or anything else or was it just sitting around for a long period of time ?

Just a point of interest I found while on the QTP site.

On the QTP pump:
Oil pump will only work with our cover. Will not clear factory timing cover. Will not work with double roller timing chain
