LS6 383 or LS3?
I have a DD just to say the least, so my T/A is parked, but the engine is toast. It still runs but not healthy and I don't think there is much I can do to save it unless I rip everything out and rebuild. I see this as a good segway to build a new engine....with that...............:
An LS6 383 would be the cheaper route, I'm just worried about upkeep on a stroker motor. What are the pros and cons?
An LS3 would be the preferred route, I just can find any stock block/rotating assemblies, everything is a 418 or 427... Pros and cons?
I have a built tranny already, I would just need a rear end and everything else to accompany a block/rotating assembly.

A stroker is a motor that is not of stock origine, but could have been if the engineers made it. I did mine fairly reasonable. I wanted the 427, but 3 years ago there weren't many reasonably priced packages. I spun a bearing and asked the same question. A little homework and a few bucks later, 382. I haven't stripped the car, 02 SS Convertible, and it runs 7 teens @ 97 in 1/8th weighing 4231lbs with me, 267lbs, in it. Great daily driver. Still needs "fine" tune, but turn key, 25mpg. I have not priced the 402-427 with proper heads today. New stuff coming out every day. Your lucky to have so many choices. Good Luck.
Well after more research I've decided I'm going to stick with the 383 LS6... prolly won't make much power but I'm not necessarily looking for all strait line speed, I am going to be autoxing and trackdaying this car as well. That's what the suspension is setup for, that is what I love doing.
I'll be able to use the spare cash to buy a rearend!

If I had to do it again I would stick with the stock cubes, after market heads, custom cam, and all the bolt ons. You can make very close to the same power and save a few more dollars. If you are set to have the 383 then by all means do it. Either way I don't think you will be disappointed.
Im planning on going 383 here in about a year or so once i save up the money. So far the best deal ive found would be with TSP's rotating assembly. Im gonna start buying all the other stuff little by little. Its not my DD so i dont have to worry bout not having a car if im going to tear into it. Im also going to P&P my 243's that i have on there now to try and save a few bucks. Its good to know reputable people that can hook you up.
You better check the deal from the sponsor; you can have a 418ci LS3 stroker for around 4K$ Pretty incredible I'd say!!
I'm running a forged 347 and I wish I knew at that time all the deals going on here;Next time is an iron408ci for around 3500-3600$:http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...id=46&catid=28 LOL very cheap and solid setup for a huge nitrous shot!!
Shop wisely; do it right the first time...

Yea, TSP 383 is what I'm eyeballing, I'm also considering stock cubes, no nawzzzzzz for me lol.
LS3 418 I would love, but the extra $700 at least for the TSP 418 and conversion kit for an LS1ed car could be used for misc. parts like caddy lifters and some rockers, or an intake manifold. I'm kind of shooting for a budget build, about to graduate college, so I'm gonna have to finish paying up student loans as well, unless I get a great job within the next few months lol..........not in this economy. I'll still be working at Honda
I was hoping I could find a stock cubed LS3 block and rotating assembly for the same price as a LS6 383, I'm starting to answer my own questions lol.
